How to Document Play Therapy: Ethics and Strategies
Description: This is a three-hour training focused on ethical and effective documentation in Play Therapy. The first portion will discuss the difference between insurance requirements and ethical board requirements fir documentation. The second portion will focus on ways to describe play therapy that limits documentation to what is necessary without unnecessarily documenting information that could be subpoenaed and misinterpreted. Finally, clinicians will be asked to write a treatment goal and a progress note for a current client of theirs in order to apply the new skills.

Describe insurance documentation requirements and compare to ethical documentation needs.

Discuss the ethical risks involved in documentation decisions.

Identify specific skills and strategies for documenting play therapy sessions that is consistent with the clinician’s theoretical orientation.
